Convenient Location, average 20 min from the LIR airport Beautiful grounds Attentive staff, friendly, service oriented, not all speak englisgh though Food, not a lot of variety BUT very good quality more so at the "A la Carte" Restaurants Awesome drinks, not your average drink mix but actually fresh fruit is used in cocktails! Cons: Hotel rooms.a 5 * resort furnished with IKEA like furniture Noise.Jungle view rooms facing the road are subject to the going back and forth of the shuttle carts and the staff coming and going working on multiple tasks The hotel needs badly an actual bakery/ice cream shop! The existing coffee shop is limited to coffee and limited pastries, no ice cream, no sorbets, etc. Costa Rica is wonderful and we will be back to visit again. Maurice guided us, provided great advice, and is a real pro. We went on 3 tours (zip-lining, river rapid running with RCR-the ONLY way to go Manuel, our river guide, was awesome-, and Sensoria all were great experiences and worth the cost. I could go on, but will close with a comment about Maurice with AmStar. When Christian was on duty, we were NEVER without a drink. On another note, Christian took care of all of needs at the pool. Great attention to detail and the food quality was very good. Javier and crew set-up a private dinner near the beach that was outstanding and memorable. Also, for dinner at Seaside, Javier, Carlos, and one other waiter (embarrassed, but forgot his name) were terrific.
While all the Secrets' staff were terrific, special mention for breakfast at Seaside goes to Kenneth, Nelly, Aaron, and Roslyn-they were simply AWESOME. Breakfast at Seaside Cafe was wonderful-live music every morning, great, fresh food to order, an amazing setting overlooking the Culebra Bay, great, healthy juices, and wonderful, fresh ground Costa Rican espresso. At Secrets, the food was very good-particularly at the Seaside Cafe and Portofino. We are not fans of all-inclusives as food quality is often lacking. The food was very good for an all-inclusive. With that said, the experience was fantastic and the value excellent. The hotel grounds are not first class, but good and clean and the staff more than makes up for the quality of the hotel property.
